Hundreds of 2022 Primary TET-qualified candidates gathered outside Bikash Bhavan, demanding immediate recruitment for 50,000 vacant primary teacher posts in government schools. They alleged that despite qualifying two years ago, no appointment process has begun, while thousands of vacancies remain unfilled. The last large-scale TET-based recruitment took place in 2017. Protesters insisted that the education department issue an official notification without further delay.
Security was heightened ahead of the demonstration, and when candidates attempted to enter Bikash Bhavan, police blocked them, leading to heated arguments. The situation escalated into minor scuffles as some protesters tried to push through barricades. Bidhannagar Police intervened, removing demonstrators from the premises. Some job seekers claimed police used force, while authorities maintained they acted to prevent disruption.
Candidates stated they would continue protests until appointments begin, citing long delays despite qualifying. They emphasized that the recruitment process should start immediately for vacancies in Classes 1 to 5. With the academic session ongoing, they urged the government to expedite hiring to address teacher shortages in primary schools.
